Bird Issues At Hawker Centre
Industry Collaboration - Research Lab
Singapore government agencies have implemented bird control measures at hawker centres like Tray Return Programme and bird spikes to reduce bird nuisances. However, there are limitation to the current efforts. Inspired by this national challenge, 40 Diploma in Product Design & Innovation students were tasked to explore solutions relating to these bird-related issues through a design thinking approach. Innovative concepts proposed by the students includes educational campaigns for kindergarteners to engaging mobile applications to improved tray return collection points, which a selected few will be developed further and pilot tested in hawker centres. This collaboration project is together with Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore (AVA), National Environment Agency (NEA) and Municipal Services Office (MSO).
